Equity Release is a mortgage for over 55’s where you can release cash (equity) from your home to supplement your pension, hand gifts to your children, repay an interest only mortgage, purchase the holiday of a lifetime, or any legal proposition.
The older you are at application, the higher percentage of your home you can borrow. The interest rate is fixed for life and no repayments are required, but you can choose to make payments should you wish. There is a no negative equity guarantee, so the outstanding mortgage will never exceed the value of the property.
You retain full ownership of the property throughout. The house must be sold when the second borrower either dies or goes permanently into long term care.
